Baiturrahman Mosque of Aceh

Baiturrahman Mosque (Masjid Agung Baiturrahman) is one of the noble mosque that has been considered as an icon or symbol of the people of Aceh, Indonesia.

Baiturrahman Mosque is located in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh territory. This holly mosque was built in 1873 . Baiturrahman Mosque (Masjid Agung Baiturrahman) has ever got in fire during the Holland Colonization. The mosque then rebuilt in 1875.

Baiturrahman Mosque was designed in consists of five domes. The main dome is designed high, and the mosque interior is dominated with attractive curvings and decoration. A beautiful water pool is one of the main characteristic of this holly mosque. It is a lotus water pool with 20 meters distance, and built from the front of the mosque until the main gate.

In Tsunami disaster in 2004, a three meters flood of Tsunami had hit the mosque. Baiturrahman Mosque (Masjid Agung Baiturrahman) was one among some buildings that stood still, and had saved a lot of people’s lifes.
